Magnetic lifter is now a very common lifting equipment for steel handling. Lifting magnets are divided into three categories: electromagnet, permanent magnet and electro-permanent magnet. Here we will talk about which is best suited for thin steel plate handling.
Permanent Magnetic Lifter: cheap but inefficiency
The price of a permanent magnet is low. But it is not suitable for manufacturers who need to move steel frequently. This is because it requires workers to manually change the state of the magnet to place the plate. And the magnetic force is fixed and cannot be adjusted to the changing size of the steel plate. Such permanent magnets do not help manufacturers improve handling efficiency.
Electromagnetic Lifter: efficiency but unsafe
The electromagnet has a relatively large depth of magnetic transmission and is easy to use, so it is widely used in industry. However, when dealing with thin steel plates, the deep magnetic transmission of the electromagnet becomes a disadvantage. This can cause the steel plates to stick together, making it impossible to accurately grip the specified number of plates. Electromagnets also have safety drawbacks: the heat generated by the coil being constantly energised will affect the magnetic holding force. Also, an accidental power failure will result in an immediate loss of magnetism, causing the steel plates to fall.
Electro Permanent Magnetic Lifter: safe, efficiency and accurate
There are two types of magnetic material inside the electropermanent magnet: Neodymium Iron Boron and Alnico.
The way it works is to switch the positive and negative direction of the internal magnetic materials by using electric current. The magnetic field of the two magnetic materials acts simultaneously on the workpiece in the magnetised state. It does not require electricity to be maintained, so there is no need to worry about accidental power failure when using EPM.
The magnetic force of EPM is controllable, so our lifter can be used to lift multiple sheets and set them down one by one to achieve precise handling of thin steel sheets.
In addition, HVR MAG has specially designed HM3 series lifting magnets for thin and long steel plates. The magnet modules are suspended from a supporting beam by chain links to better adapt to the deflection angle of the plates.
In summary, when choosing a magnetic lifter, you can consider your own cost budget and your requirements for lifting working conditions. Normally the larger companies will give priority to the electric permanent magnetic lifter. Although the initial investment cost is relatively high, the electric permanent magnet is the safest and most accurate lifting device. Long-term use, but can also save a lot of electricity and maintenance costs.
