Large Welded Corrugated Panels: Handling with Lifting Magnet
Today we will talk about lifting magnet for corrugated panels. Corrugated panels are used more frequently in steel plants and portable houses. Generally, it is a piece of cake to design a handling plan for normal 2~3-meter-long, 800-mm corrugated panels. Today, however, we are talking about large welded corrugated panels.
Working conditions of lifting
The customer, who is a welder, received an order for corrugated board welding. After welding, the handling of the corrugated board had been bothering him a lot.
The customer’s working condition was like this: the corrugated boards are 5m, 7m, 11m, and 12m long, 800 mm wide, 1.4/2.5mm thick and weighs 300kg at most. And they were welded into 3.5x20m, 7x20m, 11x20m, 12x20m corrugated board with 1.4/2.5mm thickness, weighing 7000kg at most.
Lifting method previously
Previously, customers welded a keel-like workpiece on the corrugated panel when they put together the welding. Then they would weld the lifting point and then used hooks on the truss to achieve handling. However, there are some problems with this kind of lifting.
To begin with, the efficiency of material handling basically took a lot of time and manpower. It seriously affected the production capacity. What’s more, there was no safety guarantee for this kind of handling, but high safety hazards.
Customer necessity
The customer hoped that after welding there would be no need to add keel-like workpiece and lifting points. Because after the handling, they had to knock off the lifting points and grind or polish the welding marks of the lifting points. Very troublesome job indeed. Above all, he wanted to solve the efficiency problem by introducing the electro permanent magnetic lifter.
HVR MAG’s solution
First of all, we chose small magnets with multiple lifting points layout, because of the large and relatively thin sizes of the corrugated panels. Since the longest corrugated panel is 20m and the widest is 12m, the lifting magnet should be designed to be 18-19 meters in length and 3 meters in width. So then two sets of joint lifting magnet were adopted. Of course, considering the logistics and delivery problem, we made the two magnetic lifters into the spliceable type. This not only solved the logistics and delivery problem, but also ensured that the shape and size of the lifters remain unchanged.
