Permanent lifting magnets are often used in steel plate handling process, as they leave no scratch on the workload surface, like the clamps or hooks do. Read this article to know more about the features of this magnetic lifting device.
How does permanent lifting magnets work?
A permanent lifting magnet, also called as on/of rare earth permanent magnetic lifter, is a lifting device that has a block with the main body and a rotor. It has two magnets in the main body and rotor each. These two magnets, when positioned in the same direction, produce magnetic flux that reaches the metallic objects to be lifted.
This type of magnetic lifting device can attract, hold and release a flat ferrous part alternatively every time it raises from ground and lands on the ground, without manually turning a lever and without any electrical power supply. It is a necessity for loading and unloading steel plates from burn tables or anywhere that limits operator access, and performing repetitive lifting task.
Advantages:
- Cheap
- No need electricity
- Using rare earth magnetic materials, suffice to lift small steel load
Disadvantages:
- Manually switched on/off, low handling efficiency
- Unable to lift steel plates or loads weighing up to tons
- Unable to adjust the magnetic force when lifting steel plates of varying thickness
Electrically Switched Permanent Lifting Magnets with Beam
This is a new type of magnetic lifting equipment, designed to meet different steel handling requirements for users.
It’s composed of a spreader beam/bar, with couples of magnet lifters mounted on it. Remote controllable, these electro permanent lifting magnets, do not use electricity during the lift, except in the MAG and DEMAG phase.
Advantages:
- No energy consumption during the lift
- No dropping load even in a sudden power outage
- Adjustable lifting force with 3-4 gears, to suit steel plates of varying thicknesses
- Selective control of magnet lifters to fit for handling steel plates of varying lengths
- Remote controlled
For uses in places where power supply is restricted or limited, we can do battery powered/operated magnetic lifting beam. For handling steel plates of greatly varied lengths, we can tailor telescopic lifting beam with couples of magnets. Other optional features vary depending on the specification of the loads to be handled.
Permanent lifting magnets are one of the most common and useful things that are widely used in heavy industries like shipbuilding, engineering machinery, to lift and transport ferrous materials like Iron plates, steel plates, etc. Choosing the right type makes a big difference in the handling efficiency and the overall lifting safety.
