Electro-permanent magnetic lifter is currently the best solution to the steel handling problem. It is basically customized product due to the different working conditions of each factory. HVR MAG has developed different ranges of magnetic lifters for different steels, such as the HM3 range for thin steel plates, the HS range for structural steels, etc. The details of magnetic strength and beam specification can be modified as required.
Magnetic lifter can be customised in the following details:
Magnetic strength of magnetic lifter
As the steel is suspended in the air by both magnetic suction from above and gravity from below, it is important to ensure that the suction of the magnets is much greater than the weight of the steel itself. If the weight and size of the steel to be lifted is not constant, then the lifting magnet should be designed for the largest and heaviest steel. And we will make the magnetic strength adjustable in stages to suit different working conditions.
Beam specifications
The length of the beam is also important when handling steel plates. This is because the allowable overhang at the ends of thin and medium thick steel plates is not the same. Once the overhang exceeds the limit, there will be deformation and a vertical downward pulling force that can cause the plate to fall.
Normally a 10mm thick steel plate can have an overhang of 1500mm at each end. This means that the beam used to lift a 10mm thick, 12m long steel plate must not be less than 9m long. Steel bars or tubes can be lifted without fear of deformation as they are very rigid. For handling steel pipes of 9-12 metres in length, the beam of our magnetic lifter can be as short as 3 metres. And so on. We can design the total length of the lifter according to the customer’s requirements within the permissible limits. Magnetic lifter with telescopic beam is also available.
Shape of the contact surface
HVR also selects the shape of the bottom of the magnet module according to the shape of the workpiece, because the larger the contact area between the magnet and the material, the greater the effective attraction force. We can produce magnets with flat bottoms to attract sheet type materials, V-shaped to attract angles, rounded to attract round bars or tubes.
Lifting direction
Most of the time steel plates are lifted without being turned over, so the magnetic module of many lifters is fixed to the beam. However, HVR has the HM4 series, which is designed for vertical lifting requirements, and can also lift a steel plate horizontally and then turn it 90 degrees.
HVR MAG has been working with magnetic lifter and electro-permanent magnet since its inception. We have a wealth of experience and technology to provide you with safer and more efficient steel handling solutions. For more information, please contact us at:export@hvrmagnet.com
