Today, I’d like to share a typical application of (FANUC) robot gripper, designed and manufactured by HVR MAG, manipulating steel plate in an automatic bending machine workstation, in a machinery manufacturing workshop.
To begin with, let’s take a close-up view of the design of robot gripper.
The gripper consists of 2pcs of flat electro-permanent magnets of different models, mounted at the end of the FANUC robot arm, enabling the robot to pick up and release of the metal plate.
Robot magnetic gripper mechanism
Utilizing electro permanent magnets as gripping heads, to handle steel plate to be bent, ensuring that only 1 pc will be picked up instead of 2 or more pieces. This is why it beats electromagnetic gripper in the first place.
Moreover, this magnetic gripper does not consume power in gripping state. It only uses electricity in MAG and DEMAG phase, which means, the gripped part will not drop even when the power supply of the workshop suddenly goes off.
Manipulating Process
The robotic gripper first, picks up only one piece of steel plate, transfers it to a specified area to change the gripping position of plate; faces the plate up for the bending procedure; after the first bending, transfers it to another designated place to change again the gripping position of plate; faces the plate up again, for the second bending procedure. With all these done, the plate will be palletized on the pallet.
