Lifting Magnet Safety Guidelines
•The surface of both the lifting magnet and the load must be clean.
•No hooking of two lifting magnets without the use of a properly designed spreader beam.
•The operator should avoid carrying the load over people.
•Care should be taken to make certain the load is correctly distributed for the lifting magnet being used.
•Nobody must be allowed to stand on top of lifted workpiece.
•Avoid placing the magnet in shear.
•Do not allow load or magnet to come into contact with any obstruction.
•Avoid uneven lifts.
Lifting Magnet Safety Factors
Labeled lifting magnet capacities represent ultimate lift force – the lifting capacity of the magnet on different loads UNDER IDEAL CONDITIOND – unless clearly specified otherwise.
If would be impossible to foresee all varying conditions of operations from one installation to another and try to rate the magnet for each and every possible condition of operation. Instead, the magnet operator must do this by applying a safety factor to ultimate lift strength of the magnet, making sure that the safety factor applied represents actual conditions as much as practical. Some of the operating conditions that dictate the applicable safety factor are:

◆Smoothness of lift
◆Flatness and stiffness of load
◆Centering of load on magnet
◆Environment
◆Voltage fluctuations (for electromagnets)
When any of these conditions are anything but ideal, the operator must apply a safety factor that will account for corresponding adverse effects on the ultimate lift strength of the magnets.
When lifting with magnets, safety is exclusively the responsibility of the operator. Accidents can happen at any time when a heavy work load is being lifted, hung and moved by lift magnets, especially when not obeying the strict operation rules, or operating the devices that have not been inspected before use.
Any dropping of heavy work load would result in personal injury or even death as well as property damage. The following lifting magnet safety operation rules must be kept in mind and observed when in use.
■ Never allow any unauthorized personnel to operate the lifting magnets.
■ Never use the lifting magnet before inspecting it.
■ Always be confident that any lifting must have 3:1 safety factor.
■ Stay clear of the work load any time.
■ Warn all personnel in the site before you are going to lift a work load.
■ No vibration of or impact to the lifting magnet in transportation.
■ Never move the lifting magnet and load over or close to personnel.
■ Prohibit any personnel close to, stand or pass under the magnet.
■ Always pay your close attention until the load has been landed.
■ Never operate the lifting magnet higher than 80℃.
■ Make load surface clean. Remove dust, burrs, unnecessary paints and chips from it.
■ Load must stay in level during lifting.
■ Use a spreader bar hanging two or more lifting magnets to lift big plate.
